The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had appealed Yasin Malik's death sentence, but an NIA court in New Delhi rejected the request and sentenced him to life in prison.
The NIA judge said all sentences would run concurrently and the life sentence would mean a life sentence.

Yasin Malik was sentenced to two years in prison and sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Rs 1 million.

Muhammad Yasin Malik has been incarcerated for years in the infamous Tihar prison in New Delhi. Kashmiri Hurriyat leader Yasin Malik, addressing a judge in court, said, "I will not plead.

Yasin Malik went on to say that if I was a terrorist why was I not put on paper when I was convicted. If I was a terrorist why was I given a passport under Prime Minister Vajpayee? If I was a terrorist, why was I given the opportunity to give lectures in important places in India and abroad? '

The court ignored Yassin Malik's questions and said that time was running out. The court said, "Tell me, what do you want to say about the proposed sentence?" Yasin Malik said, "I will not plead in court, even if the court deems it appropriate."

"I have been following Gandhi's principles for decades. If Indian intelligence proves that I am involved in any terrorist activity, I will resign from politics. If I am found to be involved in any act of violence, I will accept the death penalty.
